From 16th to 17th of June 2022, the Kigali International Arbitration Center (KIAC) hosted the East Africa International Arbitration Conference taking place in Kigali/Rwanda graced by His Lordship the Chief Justice of Rwanda Dr. Faustin Ntezilyayo under the theme "Resettling for a new age of International Arbitration in Africa: Climate change, Global partnerships and sustainable Development.
In his welcoming remarks, the Secretary General of Kigali International Arbitration Center Mr. Victor Mugabe expressed his gratitude to the participants and wished them a good stay in Rwanda. He further commended their efforts to promote arbitration and other ADR in Africa.
The Secretary General appreciated the support of the Government of Rwanda to enhance international arbitration and other ADR services through KIAC.

The Conference Chief Guest, His Lordship the Chief Justice Dr. Faustin Ntezilyayo, stated that Rwanda was the 143rd country to put in place arbitration law, as a way of disputes resolution in commercial matters but also to enhance the rule of law.
"In 2010 the parliament casted a a law establishing KIAC as a way of promoting Arbitration and a decent place for research and training of professionals in ADR, and the Government still supports the center to achieve its mission." He added.
Among other dignitaries that attended the conference include Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja theMinister of Justice/Attorney General of Rwanda and the President Judge of the East African Court of Justice, His Lordship Nestor Kayobera.

Moise Nkundabarashi, KIAC Secretary General Victor Mugabe and Conference Director Ms. Agnes Gitau.
On the second and last day of the EAIAC, the discussions evolved around (but not limited to), arbitration and technology, Intra-Africa investment Treaties and Arbitration, and fostering female leaders in Africa’s International Arbitration scene, International Arbitration in Islamic Finance: Opportunities/Trends.
The day was started by a note of thanks to all participants by the Secretary General of KIAC Victor Mugabe followed by the Keynote remarks by the President of Rwanda Bar Association Adv. Moise Nkundabarashi, who reminded them that KIAC is the proof that the practice of International Arbitration is a reality in African when key stakeholders join their efforts to promote and support this particular approach of settling disputes in commercial.
The conference was concluded by Africa Arbitration award gala dinner at Ubumwe Grande Hotel, to mark the end of such a successful 2-day Conference, and KIAC was part of the awarding entities.
