KIAC HOSTS A HIGH-LEVEL TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR COUNSEL IN ARBITRATION
From 20th to 22nd of July, The Kigali International Arbitration Center (KIAC) hosted, a high-level training workshop for Counsel in International Arbitration, which was organized in partnership with the SOAS University of London and Africa Legal Support Facility with the aim, to enhance each participant’s understanding of the role of an efficient counsel in international arbitration.
The training attracted 32 participants including 28 practicing lawyers out of which 11 were lawyers from Government institutions and one civil engineer who practice who is enrolled on KIAC panel of Arbitrators.

The training sessions involved practical exercises based on a case studies, designed to enhance the skills and capacity of participants to address issues that arise in complex international arbitration proceedings, they also covered strategy and ethics, drafting, advocacy and hearing preparations, and the workings of the arbitral tribunal.

On the second and third day of the training courses focused on fact witness and expert examination in chief, cross examination and re-examination in arbitral proceedings and on drafting and making closing submissions to the Arbitral Tribunal.

Trainees expressed their gratitude for the skills acquired during the three-day training where they underwent various subject matters and case studies analysis through group discussions, and hailed the efforts invested in by organizers and the host.
Trainings were facilitated by eminent international Arbitration practitioners from Africa, America, Asia and Europe.
